Frequently Asked Questions

The main difference between the Dualit Classic and NewGen is mostly a matter of name. The NewGen Classic is the current version, with ProHeat elements, a defrost setting, and a bagel function, built on the same hand-assembled construction, mechanical timer, and manual lever as the original. Retailers list it as NewGen, Classic, or New Generation Classic, but it is the same hand-built toaster.
The right Dualit size depends on how many people sit at breakfast. The 2-slice suits one or two people and a narrower counter, while the 4-slice has a selector that heats one, two, three, or all four slots, so it works for a full Saturday table and a single Monday slice. Both models are built to the same commercial standard.
A Dualit toaster does not pop up automatically; the eject lever is manual by design. The mechanical timer ends the cycle, and the toast stays warm in the slot until you lift the lever. Its Peek and Pop lever also lets you raise the toast to check it, then lower it to finish.
A Dualit toaster is worth the money if you intend to buy one toaster rather than a series of them. It is built for commercial use, the ProHeat elements carry a two-year guarantee, and every component is repairable or replaceable. The price buys the end of the replacement cycle.
A Dualit NewGen Classic is built to last a lifetime because its parts are repairable or replaceable. Elements, timer, and switches can all be serviced, with spares available directly from Dualit. When an element eventually wears, our in-store repair counter can fit the replacement and help you order the right part.
A Dualit toaster handles thick and dense breads because you control the cycle, not a sensor. The mechanical timer allows longer toasting for a dense sourdough, the bagel setting toasts the cut side while warming the back, and the high-lift mechanism raises crumpets and small slices clear of the slot. Frozen bread gets its own defrost setting.
A genuine Dualit is hand-assembled in West Sussex with the assembler's name on the base plate. Its ProHeat elements have an armor-plated layer over the filament, while many standard toasters rely on exposed elements that are not made to be replaced. When a Dualit element wears out, the part is replaced and the toaster stays in the kitchen.
